Please note that we exclusively work with patients between the ages of 18-64 years old who are the primary decision makers for their own medical care. We do not accept any form of Medicare or Medicaid insurance.
In order to comply with federal law and promote the best possible standard of care, we request that all intake appointments be held in-person. All patients will be required to attend at least one in-person appointment per calendar year.
PLEASE NOTE: INSURANCE PLANS SOMETIMES HAVE VERY DIFFERENT TERMS FOR TELE-HEALTH VS. IN-PERSON APPOINTMENTS, WHICH CAN AFFECT YOUR COSTS. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR INSURANCE PLAN FOR DETAILS.
Please expect a return phone call from our staff to review other questions prior to being scheduled for a new patient appointment.
New Patients – JR
Our practice is fortunate to count on a team of skilled and caring physician assistants (PAs), who work closely with Drs. Turnipseed and McKay to provide care for our patients. PAs are highly-trained medical professionals who have completed a master’s degree that entails both rigorous medical education and more than 2,000 hours of clinical rotations before graduation. They are certified by the same medical board that licenses physicians, and are held to the same standard of care.
Like psychiatrists, PAs have training in general medical practice as well as the field of psychiatry. In partnership with our physicians, PAs are able to provide the full spectrum of care that Roots offers, from skilled assessments to ordering and interpreting labs to prescribing medication. Equally important, they bring genuine compassion and a well-trained ear to every appointment, ensuring that our patients receive the highest possible quality of care.
Employing this collaborative-care model, we are able to help more people, lowering wait-times for appointments and improving the quality of life for all of our patients.
For psychiatric care, we accept most major insurance plans, including: BCBS, United Health Care, Humana, Aetna, Cap Rock/TX Med Clinic, Cigna, Baylor Scott & White, and Magellan. If your insurance is not listed here please contact us for details.
Psychotherapy is offered fee-for-service only.
We do not accept Medicare or Medicaid at this time.

How do I use my insurance?
It is recommended that you call your insurance plan and check your benefits for behavioral health prior to seeking treatment. Many insurance plans contract behavioral health through different carriers (ex: Blue Cross Blue Shield HMO plans are often managed by Magellan). We can assist you in determining your benefits, just complete the contact form below.
Do you accept Medicare or Medicaid?
We do not accept any type of Medicare or Medicaid. If you have a commercial plan in addition to Medicare or Medicaid we cannot bill either insurance company.
How do I obtain my medical record?
All requests for medical records must be made in writing. Requests for medical records not from the individual client must include a fully completed consent for release of information. Fees may be associated with requests.
