Motherhood isn’t always what it looks like on social media. If you’re feeling sad, irritable, anxious, or disconnected after giving birth, you may be experiencing postpartum depression or anxiety.

At Roots Behavioral Health, we offer compassionate, judgment-free support for new parents. Our therapy and psychiatry team can help you navigate this challenging time with care and expertise.

Our team of providers are exceptional listeners, compassionate caregivers, and highly-trained practitioners.

Common areas of focus:

  • Postpartum depression and anxiety
  • Birth trauma and adjustment stress
  • Medication management (including breastfeeding-safe options)

The root causes of human suffering are diverse, and each person who comes to us deserves treatment that thoroughly addresses their unique needs. Roots Behavioral Health provides a wide variety of services, with a staff of psychiatrists, physician assistants, and therapists of the highest caliber, so that everyone we treat can achieve the best possible outcome.

Our approach to postpartum depression treatment is based on the belief that well-being is multifaceted, and effective support must include the whole person. Our team of providers are exceptional listeners, compassionate caregivers, and highly-trained practitioners.

All postpartum depression care begins with an in-depth, one-hour evaluation in a consultation room designed for comfort and safety. Our providers impart an attentive, compassionate presence, asking comprehensive questions to get to the bottom of each person’s condition. We explore and evaluate every patient’s lifestyle, social context, and environmental circumstances to gain a complete understanding of their situation. We are an integrative and integrated mental healthcare clinic.

We offer in-person and virtual psychiatry therapy and counseling services across our three Austin locations.

For therapy and counseling, we accept most major forms of insurance. Unfortunately, we can not accept Medicare or Medicaid at this time.

Kind words from those we’ve cared for

“"After seeing Dr. Turnipseed directly for my first 9 years of sessions I was extremely weary of being transferred to another member of his team. Kristin made the transition so easy and I was able to open up to her faster than I have with others. She is amazing at what she does and I always feel lighter after each of our sessions."”

Patient of Kristin Serrano, PA-C

“"Lo and Mary Claire have created such a safe space for me to heal and I am so lucky to have found my way here."”

Patient of Lauren Feirstein, PA-C and Mary Claire, LMSW

“"With the nature of my first visit being virtual, it was great to feel connected and feel like it was a real, organic session. Nina really built rapport quickly and made the experience a comfortable and productive one."”

New Patient with Nina Jolley, PA-C

“"Since the phone system and Klara app have been reworked, everything has been great! I love Roots, and all of your staff, and can truly say that you are the best psychiatric practice I've ever had the honor and pleasure to be a patient with. Your care is above and beyond. Thank you so much for everything you do!"”
