Brent Turnipseed, MD

Medical Director

Brent Turnipseed, MD is a board-certified psychiatrist. As a native Austinite, he offers friendly, compassionate health care for Central Texans. Dr. Turnipseed has written and contributed to articles for highly regarded psychiatric publications and is respected by his peers in the mental health community.

Dr.Turnipseed offers his patients evidence-based psychiatric care in a comfortable environment. He is experienced in determining whether medication, psychotherapy, or both, are the appropriate treatment for each patient.

Dr. Turnipseed is formally trained in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and can offer this and other unique customized ketamine treatment options to his patients. He is proactive in maintaining the rights and dignity of his patients.

As Medical Director, Dr. Turnipseed’s role is to stay abreast of the highest standards of psychiatric care, and to supervise our providers in meeting those standards.

Eden Rouse, MD

Eden Rouse, MD is a licensed psychiatrist in Texas and West Virginia. She graduated medical school from Brody School of Medicine, and completed her psychiatric residency training at West Virginia University. Dr. Rouse relocated to Austin in 2019 to provide compassionate care to Roots Behavioral Health's growing population.

Your first visit with Dr. Rouse will begin with a one-on-one personal conversation about what is bothering you. She has experience treating anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress, psychosis, and addiction. She believes that improving mental health requires a multimodal approach: social support and connection, community involvement, psychotherapy, diet modification, physical exercise, and medication.

Dr. Rouse incorporates affect-based psychodynamic principles, as well as cognitive behavioral and interpersonal therapies into her everyday practice.

Andrea Turnipseed, LCSW-S

Executive Director

Andrea Turnipseed, LCSW has training and background in adult mental health. She has worked with clients in acute inpatient and outpatient psychiatric settings, facilitating both group and individual therapy. She has a particular interest in working with individuals who experience mood disorders such as anxiety, depression, and bipolar disorder. She also helps clients through various life challenges such as grief and loss, relationship issues, parenting, and school and career stress.

Andrea assesses each individual to guide the direction of therapy. Andrea has been formally trained in Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) and she also utilizes techniques from psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral (CBT), acceptance & commitment (ACT), solution-focused, and strengths-based therapy models to help identify the resources within the client to move past negative thoughts and behaviors.

Andrea provides a non-judgmental space for clients to share events and difficulties. She asks questions and makes observations to help elicit positive change and growth.

As Executive Director, Andrea is responsible for the overall health and wellbeing of the organization, as well as surprising us all with delicious treats from time-to-time.

Dave Wofford, LPC

Director of Operations

Dave Wofford is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a background in education and meditation. He has worked with adults and adolescents in community agencies as well as private practice. He is eclectic in his approach and incorporates mindfulness-based CBT, somatic awareness, and neurodharma in his work. Dave's current focus is on Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy and multi-modal integration strategies for depression, anxiety, and personal growth.

As Director of Operations, Dave is responsible for the nuts and bolts of bringing our mission to life, coordinating the KAP program, and the occasional dad-joke.

Dave is a husband and father of three, and spends his free time playing music and hiking.

Lauren is a Physician Assistant certified by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants. She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Ecology/ Evolutionary Biology at the University of Colorado Boulder. She earned a Master of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

Lauren is a compassionate and attentive provider who believes in improving mental healthcare one patient at a time. In her free time, she enjoys playing with her dogs, trivia, hiking and traveling.

Kristin is a Physician Assistant certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. In addition, she is licensed by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners. Kristin holds a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from Keiser University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Florida State University.

Kristin is fluent in English and Spanish. She is compassionate and enjoys helping patients achieve the best medical treatments possible. On her off time she enjoys hiking, trivia, and traveling.

She completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology at the University of Denver in 2011. She also holds a Master of Medical Sciences degree from Tufts University School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program in Boston, MA. Kohlbe is passionate about mental health and the role it plays in physical health and overall wellbeing. She favors a holistic approach to care that is geared towards treating the whole person, and she looks forward to utilizing this approach to deliver quality care to her patients. In her spare time, Kohlbe enjoys spending time outdoors, playing with her dog Bastien, baking, and a good eggs Benedict.

Lo graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a degree in Zoology and Latin American, Caribbean and Iberian Studies as well as a Masters in Physician Assistant Studies. With a Path of Distinction in Global Health, Lo is passionate about providing culturally sensitive medicine and addressing social determinants of health. Lo has a medical certification in Spanish and she values a patient-centered approach. In her free time Lo enjoys swimming, biking, sewing, and traveling.

Tracy Carver, PhD

Dr. Tracy Carver is an award winning Licensed Psychologist in the State of Texas. She was voted the Best Mental Health Professional in Austin two years in a row by readers of Austin Fit Magazine. She studied at the University of Texas at Austin, earning a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology and an M.A. in Educational Psychology. She trained at Harvard University, completing an internship in Clinical Psychology through Harvard Medical School. She is also a 200 hour certified yoga teacher.

Tracy provides counseling services for issues related to self-esteem, anxiety, depression, and addiction. With a flexible and collaborative style, she helps her clients find solutions to their problems and achieve lasting, positive change.

Her approach is based on the belief that with increased awareness comes a more profound sense of control and an ability to act with intention. She believes therapy is one of the best ways to cultivate a more peaceful mind, shift the language we use to describe ourselves, and overcome the mental roadblocks that may be keeping us stuck in self-defeating patterns.

Mary Claire Gottesman, LMSW

Mary Claire is a Licensed Master Social Worker practicing under the supervision of Andrea Turnipseed, LCSW. Mary Claire graduated from U.T. Austin with a Bachelor of Social Work degree and went on to receive her Master of Social Work from Texas State University. Mary Claire’s diverse experience before entering private practice involved working with clients of all ages and included time with Child Protective Services, Gardner Betts Juvenile Detention Center, Austin Lakes Hospital, as well as experience in conducting assessments and counseling individuals and groups at the Travis County Jail and Travis County Correctional Complex.

Mary Claire often utilizes a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) approach but believes each individual has their own unique needs and pathways to realizing their full potential in therapy, and beyond. Practice areas include Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), depression, anxiety/mood disorders and substance use disorders as well as relationship struggles, loss/grief and general life transitions. Lindsey is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). She has been trained in EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) and focuses primarily on treating PTSD, co-occurring, and mood disorders. She first became licensed in psychotherapy in 2004 and has since worked with individuals, couples, and families in private practice, community based treatment, detox, and residential treatment.

She recently completed a certificate program at the California Institute of Integral Studies in Psychedelic Assisted Therapy and Research and is passionate about the emerging new therapies in this arena, including Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy. Lindsey is also a 200 hour KRI certified Kundalini Yoga instructor, which gives a holistic (mind-body connection) flavor to her work.

Leslie Larson, LPC-S

Leslie is a Licensed Professional Counselor who has been working in the mental health field for 25 years. She works from an attachment perspective and has extensive experience working with trauma and PTSD, as well as anxiety, mood disorders and addictions. With a background in community mental health leading up to opening her own private practice in 2007, Leslie’s work has brought her in touch with those with chronic and severe mental health conditions, abuse survivors of all ages and walks of life and even violent offenders …treating abusers as well as the abused.

Leslie is a Certified Approved Consultant in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and integrates this with deeply focused somatic awareness to assist clients in moving past issues that prevent them from fully participating in their lives. Utilizing mindfulness in all of her work, her mantra is “just notice that.”

As one of the newer members of the team, Leslie believes that Roots Behavioral Health’s Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is at the leading edge of innovative, evidence-based behavioral health treatment and feels very excited and privileged to be a part of it.

In her leisure time, Leslie volunteers at Austin Pets Alive! and practices yoga.
